Who is responsible
The Gamble Guide (thegambleguide.com) is an independent South African publication run by its founder and editor, who is named on our About page. For POPIA purposes the founder is the responsible party and acts as Information Officer. Contact: thegambleguide01@gmail.com.
What we collect
The site has no accounts, sign-up forms, comments or newsletters, so we don't ask you for your name, email address or ID number.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are read and how people find the site. Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser and collects information such as the pages you view, how long you stay, the site that referred you, your approximate location (derived from your IP address), and your device, browser and operating system. We use this information only in aggregate, to decide what to write and fix.
Clicks on operator links
When you click a link to a betting operator, Google Analytics records that a click happened, which operator it was and where on the page the link sat. This tells us which pages people find useful. It doesn't identify you.
Server logs
Our web host, Hostinger, keeps standard server logs (such as IP address, the page requested and the time) to run and secure the site.
If you email us
If you contact us by email, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to send. We use it only to reply and to deal with your message, such as a correction request.
Who we share it with
- Google, which provides Google Analytics and processes the analytics data on our behalf, including on servers outside South Africa. See Google's privacy policy.
- Hostinger, which hosts the site.
We don't sell personal information, and we don't share it with gambling operators.
Affiliate links
We have an affiliate agreement with Hollywoodbets. Its links go first through Hollywoodbets' affiliate tracking service, which records that the visit came from us so that we can be paid a commission if you open an account. That service and Hollywoodbets may set their own cookies, under their own privacy policies. We receive only totals of sign-ups and commission, not your details. Links to other operators are plain links. Once you are on any operator's site, its own privacy policy applies.
How long we keep it
Google Analytics data is kept for no longer than 14 months. Emails are kept only as long as needed to deal with them.
Your choices
- Block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site works fully without them.
- Install Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Your rights under POPIA
You can ask us whether we hold personal information about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and object to its processing. Email thegambleguide01@gmail.com. Because we don't collect names, we may need details (such as the email address you wrote from) to find what we hold.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Information Regulator.
Age
This site is for adults (18+). We don't knowingly collect information about children.
Changes
We will update this notice and the date at the top if what we collect changes, for example if we add a newsletter or a consent tool. The last change, on 26 October 2026, added our Hollywoodbets affiliate link and operator click counts.
